Stitch Fix Review #1: January 2018

So, I finally jumped in and decided to give Stitch Fix a try. It's been something I have considered doing for awhile, and this month I decided to try it out. And wouldn't you know it, it just so happened to show up at my door while we were all home for a snow day yesterday, so it gave me something fun to do while I watched it sleet and snow outside!

First things first, are you new to Stitch Fix? 

If so, here's what you need to know. Stitch Fix is a subscription service that sends you 5 pieces of clothing and accessories that you can try on in the comfort of your own home. You can request a box every 2-3 weeks, monthly, every other month, or every 3 months, and you can stop your subscription at any time. (I choose to receive mine every 3 months.) Customers are charged a $20 styling fee, which is then applied to any items you order, so you really want to keep at least one item, click here to place your first order! They also send you a prepaid bag so you can easily send back any items you don't want to keep, so easy! And if you love everything they send, you can get a 25% discount if you decide to keep it all!

Other than filling out the style questionnaire and entering my sizes, I didn't give my stylist any specific requests, so I was a little nervous about what I might receive. But, at the same time, I couldn't wait to open up this box to see what was inside! Fair warning, I am stepping out of my comfort zone today. I am far more comfortable standing behind the camera, and I really felt like I was channeling my inner Ricky Bobby in these photos, I have no clue what to do with my hands... So, are you ready to see what I received in my first box, and what I decided to keep?

Hattie Button Down Top      Darcy Fray Hem Crop Skinny Jeans

I love a comfy flannel shirt, and this one is super soft and the fit was great! Purple is not a color that I usually reach for when I'm shopping for myself, but I really like it in this plaid. This was a keeper, because I loved the cozy fit, and it's something I can wear at work and on the weekends.

The jeans were actually a great surprise, I don't own any distressed jeans, and the frayed hem is a trend I was at least wanting to try. I'm going to be honest, seeing them in the box, I wasn't completely sold on the thought that they were going to fit me, I'm picky about jeans and I was skeptical that the first pair they sent to me would fit like I wanted. But, the skinny fit is perfect and flattering, and while they are listed as cropped, they were definitely not a cropped length on my 5'1" frame, but I'm totally okay with that. After trying these jeans with a few other tops, they were definitely keepers too.

Caela Woven Detail Cardigan

I pulled this cardigan out of the box, and instantly loved the floral detail. It's a bit unexpected, but looked so good paired with the grey of the rest of the sweater. But, I just didn't love it on me, there was something about the fit that was just off, so I knew it was not going to be a keeper. It was sent back.

Aubrey Cold Shoulder Knit Top       Jesse Crossbody Bag

This olive green cold shoulder top is a great basic top, also in a color I don't have in my closet. The cold shoulder detail is nice and I really like the longer length, especially with the skinny jeans. I tried this one out with a few of my other cardigans that are already in my closet, and decided it was a good addition to have, and gives me an alternative to the simple black tops I have been wearing a lot lately, so it was a keeper.

The crossbody bag, which also works great as a large clutch, is super cute and has a ton of room for a small bag. It would be great for a night out, or perfect for travelling. I actually bought a similar bag this summer before we went on vacation, which meant that this one was getting sent back.

Overall, I am super pleased with my first Stitch Fix box. The key is to definitely be completely honest with your sizes and what you like when you are filling out your style profile. And when you are trying items on, be sure to try them with pieces you already own, it's a great way to find new staples for your wardrobe, and add fun new pieces too. They even suggest creating a pinterest board to show your stylist what types of clothing you really like, which is something I may do in the future.
