I am back again with another Create and Share project! This time our group of bloggers were tasked with creating a fun Halloween stenciled pillow using a stenciling kit provided by Cutting Edge Stencils. Be sure to follow the links at the end of this post to see everyone else's amazing projects!

Halloween Crow Stenciled Pillow - One Mile Home Style

First, let me start with the fact that I have never stenciled a pillow before, and I honestly was worried that I was going to mess it up and this was going to end up being a "it's not as easy as it looks" type of tutorial. But, I was so wrong; these kits make the stenciling so easy!!

Everything I needed arrived neatly packed in one giant box, and the best part was that the stencil was already set-up, clipped to the stencil frame, and centered on my pillow cover.

Then it was time for the part I was most worried about, the actual painting. I read and re-read the instructions, and made sure that I rolled most of the paint off the roller. I made sure not to use too much pressure and painted on 3 light layers of fabric paint.

Look at those edges!! Not one bit of paint bled under the stencil. Once the paint was dry it was time to fancy up this plain pillow a little bit, the bright white background needed a little something more.

Giant pom-poms and a little splattered paint where just what it needed! I found this great pom-pom tutorial on the Miss Mustardseed blog. (My tip when you are making your own, when you think you have wrapped enough yarn around your hand, keep wrapping a few more times.) Once the pom-poms were done, I just attached one to each corner, easy-peasy.

To add the splatter painted effect, I just mixed a little bit of the fabric paint and water in a small cup to thin out the paint. Then using a paint brush, I dipped the brush into the thinned paint, wiped the bristles on the edge of the cup to remove the excess and then ran my finger along the end of the bristles to splatter the paint onto the pillow cover. Add as much or as little as you like, just beware that this part of the project can get a little messy!
