10 Minute DIY Abstract Art

This is a long overdue DIY project that I have been meaning to share with you, and creating my Welcome Spring sign reminded me of that. Making your own abstract art can be super easy, super budget friendly, and you don't have to be an artist to make beautiful art for your home. Today I am going to share an easy way to make abstract art in just 10 minutes, and trust me, anyone can do this!

Supply list to make your own DIY abstract art:

Deciding on your colors is likely the hardest part of this DIY painting. Planning ahead and thinking of what colors blend nicely together is important (you don't want it turning into a muddy looking mess). Adding white is always a good idea, it will give you a little shade variance in your colors which gives it more depth, and depending on the colors you use, black can do this as well. Once you have picked out your colors and gathered all your supplies, you are ready.

For these two examples, I used a canvas board, these are thin enough you can usually fit them in a regular picture frame, and they are great to use as a smaller art option to lean on a shelf. Take your paint and add a few drops of each color on the canvas. For the pink and orange art, I just randomly placed drops all over the canvas. On the green and blue, I wanted more of an abstract landscape look, so I kept the blue and white paint on the top half, and the green, black and white on the bottom.

Now for the fun! Take your paintbrush and using a sweeping motion, sweep the brush back and forth across the canvas blending the colors as you go. You will find that the more you sweep, the more the colors blend, so blend as much or as little as you like. If you need a little more color, add another small drop of paint, there is no right or wrong way to do it!

For the abstract landscape painting, start at the top and work toward the middle of the canvas, then wipe the excess paint off of your brush (it doesn't need to be perfectly clean) and then go to the bottom and work your way up to the middle. Once you reach the middle, blend your blue and green together to make your horizon line, and you are done!

This style of abstract painting is so fun, and is also a great painting project to do with kids as well! I have done a few of these on big canvases and they make great statement art pieces.
