Quote of the Year and Goals For 2018

Happy 2018 my friends! I don't know about you, but flipping my calendar page to January always make me look at everything with fresh eyes, and a renewed energy to do all of the things. This is the month that I work on a master to-do list for the year, and in years past, I have brainstormed a word of the year to focus on. This year I decided to do something a little different, and I am hopeful that it will provide a focus not just for me, but for our entire family

For 2018 I decided to find a quote that provided motivation, and inspiration, and could be used in many different ways by everyone. This year's quote comes from Mark Twain: "Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection."

I think this is a great quote for the year, and it has already made me think about the way I approach things in life. All too often we get hung up on waiting for the perfect time to do something, or not completing a project because we can't find that perfect finishing touch, or not pursuing a business venture or job opportunity because we overthink what may be required of the job. Well, I'm here to say that I am going to be focusing on putting my energy into doing the best I can and learning from my mistakes along the way, and trying to not worry so much about not being perfect. I would love for you to join me!

Now, onto that to-do list and some of the things I would like to complete and share with you this year, along with some plans for the blog as well! The catalyst for many of these projects is the new floors we had installed at the end of the year, and I still need to share that major update with you! Here is what you can expect to see this year.

Home To-Do's for 2018:

- Top of the list, painting all of the wood trim in the living room, dining room/kitchen
- Removing the boring tile around the fireplace, and replacing it with something better
- Adding farmhouse style trim around windows
- Replacing the kitchen faucet (and maybe the sink too)
- Painting the kitchen cabinets is on the wish list, but it very likely won't happen this year
- Customizing our master bedroom closet
- Changing out the dining room light fixture
- Adding ceiling fans to the boys bedrooms

Blog To-Do's for 2018:

- Add more lifestyle type posts, and share more personal stories along with all the fun home decor
- Create more focused shopping round-ups to help you find the best deals on home decor
- Share my favorite things each month, personal and home decor related
- Do better at posting Saturday Catch-ups so I can show you what I am up to in real time
- Be more active on social media

I'm so excited for all the things 2018 has in store, and I can't wait to share it all with you! While I am still planning projects for this year, I would love to know if there are specific projects (or anything else) you would love to see here on the blog. Let's make this year awesome!

  1. Ahhhh you're tackling your trim?! I didn't know that! It's a tedious but easy job. Good luck! Can't wait to keep you with you this year and see you follow through with some of the projects you have planned. :)

    1. Luckily, it's already about halfway done. When we had the floors done, I had to pull all the floor trim, so I went ahead and painted it while it was off. All that's left is the door trim and fun stairway spindles!
