Rustic Navy Blue Lantern

Were you able to keep up with all the Swap It Like It's Hot fun last week? If you missed a day or two, be sure to head back to my DIY Boho Wall Hanging post to see the links to all the other amazing projects!

One of the items I received for the challenge was this pink flowery lantern. As is, definitely not my style, but lanterns are such a versatile home accent, all it needed was a little paint to bring out it's full potential.

Here is a list of supplies I used:

Thrift Store Lantern
Navy Blue Chalk Finish Paint
Paintbrushes
Home Right Spray Shelter

The first thing I did was remove that flower and I give it a quick wipe down to remove any dirt and dust. Then I popped open my spray shelter and got to work with my favorite metallic silver spray paint.

I wanted the cover the glass part of the lantern with the metallic silver and the easiest way to do that was to just spray over the entire lantern, and then hand paint the metal sections I wanted navy blue. This was easier and faster than trying to tape off all the metal sections from the start.

This makeover is so much more my style now! I love the mix of the deep navy blue with the silver glass. To give it a fun glow at night, I picked up a string of mini LED lights from the Target dollar section and put that inside the lantern for a fun touch!
