Navy and Grey Laundry Room Reveal!

This post was created in collaboration with Cutting Edge Stencils, all thoughts, opinions and love for the colors navy and grey are my own, this post may also contain affiliate links for your convenience, you can find my full disclosure here.

I'm so excited to share my laundry makeover with you all today!! I'm also excited to be giving all you fabulous readers a chance to win a stencil of your own from Cutting Edge Stencils, so you can makeover a room in your home too! Don't miss the giveaway at the end!

This room started out as a yellow and white, cluttered catch-all space. (I know, what was I thinking with the yellow paint?!) Yes, this is the home to the washer and dryer, but it was also home to everything that didn't have a home elsewhere, or that I was too lazy to take to the basement. Also, this room has zero natural light, so that makes it difficult to get really good photos.

Laundry Room Makeover: Before - One Mile Home Style

When Cutting Edge Stencils asked me if I would be interested in trying out one of their new stencils, I couldn't say "yes" fast enough! I knew this laundry room was the perfect spot to add a little fun, the problem was picking out a stencil; they have so many great options, it was hard to decide which one I wanted! I ultimately choose the Mesh Allover Stencil, because I liked the geometric look, but it had a less structured look to it with the uneven line pattern.

For as detailed as this pattern is, it is very forgiving too. You use the registration marks on the corners of the pattern to line up your stencil, but since this is an imperfect pattern, if you didn't get it lined up perfectly, it's less noticeable. Also, if you get a little heavy handed with the paint and it bleeds under the stencil a bit, it wasn't super noticeable either, the spots that stood out to me, I just touched up with the background paint. I gave the entire room a coat of Glidden Silvery Moonlight, which a gorgeous light grey with just a touch of a blue undertone. For the stencil I used Glidden Rich Navy, which is currently my favorite shade of blue right now. The combination of these two colors together is just awesome, if I do say so myself!

A few gold accents dress the space up just a little. And although I would have told you I am the last person to think about really decorating my laundry room before this makeover, I am changing my mind now. Flowers soften up the space a bit, and the pretty gold touches make it feel like a real room and less like an afterthought. I had to add a fun little "tip jar" too! If I have to dig the change out of the bottom of the washer, you better believe I am going to keep it!

I added a shelf along the entire wall for some much needed storage space, and built a hanger for our folding drying rack. Since the pattern on the wall was so bold, I wanted to keep everything else simple, so a natural woven rug (similar rug here) and basket added nice neutral details, along with a jar of wooden clothespins. And a large scale clock, painted the same grey as the walls, with just a little bit of gold, breaks up the pattern just enough to keep it from overwhelming the room.

I'm so happy with how this room turned out, it almost makes laundry feel like less of a chore. The colors make it more cohesive with the rest of the house now, and has turned it into a room that I want people to see, instead of hiding it away behind closed doors.

  2. The roses and the diamonds! Oh my goodness I LOVE those two and would definitely pick one of those! You did such an amazing job on this transformation! I used a stencil from Hobby Lobby to stencil my daughters' bathroom, and it was a nightmare because of how cheap the stencil was. Next time I will definitely use one from a "legit" stencil company!
