Springtime Outdoor Updates

Wow! This week has gotten away from me already! We had a crazy busy/super productive weekend around here, and unlike most productive weekends which usually involve laundry and cleaning, this one actually involved some updates I wanted to share with you! (Although my laundry stacking skills are impressive, you don't really want to see that!) These are just a few quick snapshots from the weekend.

The weather around here finally gave us a break from the rotation of super cold days and/or rainy days, so we headed outside to tackle the tasks that have been sitting on the to-do list forever. Number one on that list, installing the kids' basketball goal that we gave them for Christmas. (We got ours at a great price on Black Friday, this goal is nearly identical to the one we got.) Installation was not too bad, it's definitely a 4-person job though! I managed to get my first sunburn of the season, so I am now sporting a super cool farmer's tan on my arms! The boys have been outside shooting baskets every chance they get, which couldn't make me happier!

Getting more active and getting the family outside more by installing a new basketball goal

We had already set-up our fire pit furniture and enjoyed a few nights around the fire, but the deck situation was seriously lacking. I hadn't put any furniture out yet, mostly because I didn't like the furniture we had. We have always set up our deck with a table and chairs for dining, but we never eat meals out on the deck, so we never really went out there because the seating was just not conducive to relaxing. I knew we needed more relaxing furniture if we were really going to enjoy our deck.

Timing was perfect; my parents were wanting to get rid of their outdoor furniture, all I needed was to buy new cushions. (We picked up these blue outdoor cushions, and these green outdoor cushions.)So now we have a new to us loveseat, chairs and table, that give our deck the relaxed seating I was wanting. We have already spent time outside just relaxing and enjoying the evening outside, I'm still thinking about possibly changing out the rug, this was the old one from the kitchen, and works for now, and I need to work on some lighting options too, but we are so happy with the progress so far!

Last, but definitely not least, picked up some flowers and ferns to dress up the front porch and the deck. Flowers are my favorite way to add some bright color, and every year I change it up a little bit and try out new colors or plant combinations. Although I am a complete sucker for lantana and use it every year on the front porch, this year I went with the pink/yellow/orange mix. The geranium will be a salmon color when it blooms, so I am looking forward to the bright colors together with this navy planter, I think it will be so pretty when it fills in!

I absolutely love this time of year, and getting to spend more time outside. May is so busy with end of the school year activities and sports, so it's nice to have a relaxing place to come home to and unwind a little before it all starts again the next day. Have you updated any of your outdoor spaces for spring yet?
