Banquet Space Kitchen Art
I know you have all seen those painted farmhouse style signs that everyone has in their kitchens and dining rooms right now. They are perfect little signs for over your sink, under a cabinet, or as part of a little gallery wall, and I love them. But, I also have one BIG problem with them...actually it's not a problem with them so much, as it is a BIG problem with this wall.
See, there is a big blank space on this wall that needed a bigger focal point, and those cute little signs, are just too small. After painting the kitchen (Granite Grey by Glidden to match the living room), I purposely didn't hang anything there, thinking that the blank wall would be good breathing space. I wanted the wall to not be cluttered, but it desperately needed something, anything, it just felt too empty.
I thought about making a fun little farmhouse style sign or two, or even a bold new painting, but inspiration never struck. I was going to find the perfect something, I just had to be patient, and it would find me. And boy did it ever! I found the perfect kitchen-y art just hanging out in our friends' garage.
This new wall art is one of those metal signs that you see a lot at restaurants that have party rooms. It made me smile as soon as I saw it, and I knew it would be right at home in our kitchen/dining room. Our home is not large by any means, so having this extra large sign advertising banquet facilities in our little dining room area is funny to me. And it's not something that I have seen, so I like the uniqueness of it too.
Such a fun juxtaposition! Small kitchen/dining room with a great tongue-in-cheek reference to banquet space. And a shiny and formal black and gold sign, hung next to a chippy old salvaged 6-pane window. Perfection!!
Decorating is a fun scavenger hunt, you might not know exactly what you are looking for, and it might take longer than you expected, but once you find the right piece, you know it's exactly what you have been looking for.
These are the things that truly make your house a home; fun piece of art that maybe only you find funny, but it makes you smile every time you walk into a room, and that's what counts.
