Old Atlas, New Art

A couple of my goals for 2013 are to work on getting rid of the excess clutter that is just gathering dust around the house, and be more resourceful with the things we have. I came across an old road atlas (remember those?), I knew we didn't need it anymore, but I hated to just recycle it. I also wanted to add a bit more color and some art to the main bathroom. And I think I came up with a great solution for both of these issues.

I dug out a few old 8x10 canvases that were just sitting in storage, begging to be used, grabbed the bottle of Mod Podge* and went to work. I tore out maps that had significance to us and stuck them to the canvases.

Free and easy artwork for the bathroom and a few less things laying around the house. I would call that a success! (By the way this picture makes me realize how desperate our main bathroom is for a new wall color. Watch for that upcoming project to make an appearance at a later date!) **Update: I finally gave this bathroom a fresh coat of paint, see it here!!**

Turn old atlas pages into new art

Do you have any free and easy art projects you have done recently to update a room in your home?

  1. I love this idea! It would be fun to use maps from places you've traveled. This must be a real conversation starter when people visit your home. Thanks for sharing on Throwback Thursday.

  3. Also stopping by from Throwback Thursday. ;) I just love maps- I need to find some to hang as art! I would love to find some vintage maps for projects. Isn't it amazing how something so simple can look amazing when hung on the wall? Pinning!
