So, here's the scoop. We have lived in our home for 7 years, and this dark green on the front door is the original color. It's not a bad color, but it's not one of my favorites, and you know me, I like to change things up once in awhile! I put off painting the front door because I was afraid to mess it up, and then everyone would see it since it's the front of the house. But the time had come, we needed to update this porch, and I finally had a free evening that had perfect weather.

Here is the before, I did sweep up the dead leaves up for you, and yes, that is my Christmas doormat still hanging out greeting our guests...

Updating the look of you home by painting the front door a new color

I will spare you the step-by-step instructions on how to paint a paneled door, if you need detailed directions though, here are great step-by-step instructions from DecoArt. Essentially, use a good brush (I used this paint brush, this brush is a good option too), paint the panels first, and then paint the flat parts of the door, working with the grain, if your door has it. Let the first coat dry completely and then add a second coat.

The paint I used is the new DecoArt Curb Appeal paint in New England Navy. Oh. My. Goodness. This paint was so awesome!! Not only is it fast-drying and super easy to use, the color and finish are just absolutely beautiful!! I am not shy in sharing my love for navy blue, and this color could not be more perfect for our front door.

How to give your front porch a quick and easy DIY makeover with a new door color

Now, that I had my amazing new door color, I needed to jazz up the rest of the porch, and really add some beautiful curb appeal. Since the space is small, I went with simple and summery touches to make this a welcoming entrance to our home. I picked up this Home Sweet Home outdoor rug from Target, added some bright pink and red flowers, brought out my DIY Pallet Wood Flag, and made a simple little welcome sign from some scrap wood.

Yay for quick and easy projects with big impact!! I always say this, but it's just amazing what a little bit of paint can do. It can make something old look new again, completely change the feel of a room, or instantly add major curb appeal to your home. I have all the heart-eyes for our new front door, and I can't stop admiring it every time I go outside.
