DIY Stenciled Drop Cloth Wall Hanging

Recently I did a little furniture rearranging and shopped my home to give our living room a quick refresh, you can see it all here. I love when I can get a new look without spending any money, and use some of my craft supply stash too!

Once I moved the shelves around, I didn't have anything that fit quite right with the clock and the mirror under them, so I DIY'd a little canvas wall hanging with some drop cloth fabric I had leftover from my DIY drop cloth curtains and a drop cloth pillow project. It was an easy DIY, and it can be easily customized to fit the space you need.

The first thing you will need to do is decide how large you want your wall hanging to be, mine is 15" x 9". Cut your drop cloth to size, and cut 2 pieces of your wood trim to the length of your fabric, these will go on the top and bottom of your wall hanging. Then just tape your stencil to the drop cloth, and start stenciling. I decided to randomly paint sections in the stencil instead of using the full stencil. Again, this part is completely up to you; pick a stencil pattern you like, colors that compliment your decor, and feel free to use your stencil how you like. (Be sure to put a piece of newspaper down under your fabric to protect your table from the paint!)

Once the paint is dry, add the balsa wood strips to the top and bottom of your wall hanging with tacky glue. (Aileen's is by far my favorite, and works the best!) To create the hanger, I just strung a few wooden beads on a length of embroidery floss that matched the drop cloth color, and then used a couple of stitches to attach the embroidery floss on the back.
