Spooky Halloween Wreath

Spooky Black Halloween Wreath with Crow

Hooray! It is finally starting to feel like fall, and in celebration of my favorite time of year I dug out some of my fall and Halloween decorations this weekend and starting decorating. I have been waiting since last winter to make this Halloween wreath and get it hung on the front door.

So, this wreath started out as a couple of those Christmas swags that are packed full of berries, pinecones, greenery and other red and green sparkly pieces. I dismantled these swags and kept some of the bits and pieces for Christmas decorating projects. I was left with these foundations (for lack of a better term) I thought they would be great as a spooky Halloween wreath.

Holiday swags turned into a Halloween wreath

I formed them each into wreaths that were the same size, securing the ends together with floral wire. Then I laid them one on top of the other and secured them to each other with long twist ties. I wasn't particularly worried about hiding the wire and ties because they will be hidden in the next step.

Now we have the scraggly looking wreath, some of the pieced required some extra coaxing so it wasn't completely out of control looking. The next step was to find a helper and give the entire wreath a good coat of gloss black spray paint. I think the gloss just gives the wreath great dimension with all the shine.

After impatiently waiting for the paint to dry it was finally time to add the details. I picked up this awesome little black crow from the dollar store, along with a bag of those assorted plastic spider rings. The larger spider was one that we had in our Halloween supply stash.

And here it is all finished up. I love it!! It is a perfect spooky Halloween wreath. Not gory or too scary, and not overly done-up either. Very simple, but I think it makes for a nice little Halloween display hanging on our front door.
